This here is the correct construction for the Sulfanilamide shaker that was part of the Carlisle First Aid Packet that was carried in the soldiers first aid pouch.
The shakers with the red flap were packed (together with the bandage) inside the early container (shown left) or the later laminated wrapper (shown right). The metal container was either painted red or was OD with an embossed text on the back indicating the inclusion of the Sulfanilamide shaker. Note the text "with sulfanilamide" on the packaging.
Sulfanilamide shakers with the blue flaps were not used in the Carlisle first aid packets.
I like to point out that the laminated packaging was protected by a telescoping cardboard box to prevent crushing when carried inside the first aid pouch.
Laminated packaging without the cardboard protection were carried by medics in their pouches or were used at front line aid stations.
Note the sulfa powder and sulfa tablets in the instruction poster.
