Solid Fiberboard Box

Note that there are no buy and pay buttons.

Order through the contact form the type and amount of ration kits you're interested in. This way I can calculate the best shipping option.

Two styles of the Solid Fiberboard boxes are offered: An early style specifically for the Hills Bros. Type II K rations, and a generic style for the Type III and IV K rations.

The solid cardboard used is 2.5 millimeter thick and is of heavy quality and has brown kraft paper on both surfaces. It is not, however, weatherproof like the originals. A light coat with a clear matt varnish might make the box water resistant and more durable. This box can probably be used several times.

This box is printed and cut mechanically and is then creased by hand using a machine specially designed by me. This gives the solid fiberboard its pronounced ridges on which to fold, just like the original ones. The corner joint is secured with metal staples.

This box was tried fitting in several original wooden cases and did fit some (even with room to spare) but didn’t fit others due to dimensional differences of the original wooden cases. The best but tight fit was in a wooden case with inside dimensions of 20.5 x 12 x 7.5 inch (approx. 52 x 30.5 x 19 cm).

You can make a wooden case slightly larger then the above mentioned dimensions. Just 3 to 5 millimeters larger to be safe. However, before making the wooden case, I would recommend first to finish the K Ration units and placing these in the solid fiberboard box, then check the outer dimensions of the complete box.

I do not make the wooden cases.

Solid Fiberboard Box (generic) €35

To complete your case of 12 rations (36 units) I have reproduced the box that is made of solid fiberboard. The label design is of a generic style that was used from late 1942 onwards. These boxes are to be used with the Patten and both styles Phillips K ration kits.

Below from left to right: The label on the end panel (the opposite end panel is empty); The compliance stamp on one side panel (opposite side panel is empty); The stapled corner (outside and inside).
Note the thickness of the cardboard (2.5 mm) and the heavy creases.

Solid Fiberboard box (Hills Bros.) €35

This Solid Fiberboard box is typical for the early K Rations (type I and II). Before the introduction of the V-board boxes, commercial shipping boxes were used and these can be identified by the Weatherproof logos.
This Solid fiberboard box is perfect for packing twelve Hills Bros. K ration kits.
